- 1). Make certain there is no film in the Kodak Brownie Reflex 20 camera before you attempt to open it. Even if you picked up the camera at a flea market or auction, it may contain film from the previous owner. You may get a window into the past by saving and developing any found film. You can check to see if film is in the camera by lifting the tab on the back of it to expose the red window. If you see a number, it has film. If it appears dark, the camera should be empty.
- 2). Turn the Kodak Brownie Reflex 20 camera upside-down. The film magazine loads from the bottom, not the back as is typical with many such cameras. As you look at the bottom of the camera, you will see a metal slide control in the center. Move this all the way over to your left to where it reads "Load."
- 3). Look to the right of the bottom of the camera for another metal slider. It should be in the "Lock" position if the camera film magazine is inside the camera fully. Move this slider to the "Open" position.
- 4). Take hold of the bottom of the camera, the film holder, on both the left and right sides and pull it out of the camera. If there is film on the spindle over the wind knob, remove it. Then, move the empty spool over to the left side above the wind knob. You are now ready to load your film.
