- 1). Fill a 6-inch planting pot with perlite. Poke a planting hole in the perlite for each cutting.
- 2). Bend the wire in an inverted "U" shape. Insert both ends into the soil, at the rim of the pot, at adjacent sides. Run water over the medium until the excess water drips from the bottom of the pot and set it aside to drain while you take the hibiscus cutting.
- 3). Remove 6-inch, new-growth stems from the hibiscus plant. You can root 15 to 20 cuttings per pot, according to the American Hibiscus Society.
- 4). Remove foliage from the bottom two-thirds of the cutting and cut the remaining leaves in half.
- 5). Dip the cut end of each cutting into a cup of water until the bottom inch is wet and dip it into rooting hormone. Immediately stick the cuttings into the prepared holes in the perlite.
- 6). Place the pot inside a clear plastic bag and adjust it over the wire so that the plastic does not touch the cuttings.
- 7). Place the cuttings in an area that receives bright, but indirect sunlight. Maintain moist soil and the cuttings should root within eight weeks.
