- 1). Draw a line on the wall where you plan to run the subwoofer cable. Make the marks light so you can erase them later.
- 2). Run the stud finder over the line to determine the location of studs and fire blocks inside the wall. Move the route for the subwoofer wire, if necessary, to avoid studs and other obstructions.
- 3). Mark the location where the wire will enter the wall. The overall size of the opening should accommodate both the wire and the fish tape. Typically this does not need to exceed a 1-inch diameter or 1-inch square opening. Try to make the opening as small as possible while still allowing you room to fish the wire.
- 4). Drill a hole in the upper-left corner of where you marked the opening for the wire to enter the wall.
- 5). Bend a 90-degree angle in the end of the wire hanger and poke it through the hole so that it can be rotated around in a circle a few inches behind the drilled hole. Use this method to search for obstructions in the immediate area of the hole. If there are obstructions, consider moving the wire route to another location.
- 6). Drill another hole in the bottom-right corner of where you marked the opening for the wire to enter the wall.
- 7). Cut out the drywall where the wire will enter the wall using the drywall saw. Start at one hole and cut a small square or circle, as desired.
- 8). Mark the location where the wire will exit the wall and drill holes in the corners, as you did for the entrance hole, taking time to use the wire hanger to search for obstructions. Make the opening as small as possible, while still allowing room to pull the wire through.
- 9). Cut out the exit location using the drywall saw.
- 10
Cut additional holes in the drywall where you will need to bypass obstructions, such as studs or fire blocks. You can cut a notch in the obstruction to run the wire through, or you can drill a hole through it. - 11
Attach the end of the subwoofer wire to the end of the fish tape using electrical tape. - 12
Fish the wire and fish tape through the entrance hole and obstructions until it reaches the exit hole, then pull the wire through. - 13
Detach the fish tape from the wire and, while holding on to the wire, pull the fish tape back out of the holes. - 14
Patch the holes in the wall using spare drywall and spackling paste.
