- 1). Use the old paint on a home improvement project. Instead of telling yourself you're going to paint the porch eventually, get out there and do it. This is an economical way to get rid of that piled up paint.
- 2). Give away the paint if you don't have a project to use it up with. Friends, family members or neighbors might have good use for the paint. You can also donate it, or use online services like Freecycle.org, which allows you to post your paint and find someone who has some use for it.
- 3). Check the "Mobile Collection" page of the Pinellas County Utilities website. Here, you will find a list of upcoming Mobile Collection events. Bring your old paint to one of these events, and the county will dispose of it for you.
- 4). Bring the paint to a chemical recycling and disposal company. Be sure the company accepts the type of paint you have to dispose. A list of local companies can be found through the Pinellas County Utilities website.
- 5). Throw out dried up latex paint only. Do not throw oil paint out with your regular trash to get rid of it. In Pinellas, it's considered a hazardous material and must be disposed of through a hazardous waste company.
