- Contact your phone service provider, whether for a cellular phone or landline. Most offer a service to keep your number from being identified on Caller-ID, usually known as "blocking per line." Notify the provider on which lines you would like to your information blocked.
Once you have such a service, if you should want your number to be shown for a particular call, dial *82 and wait for a second dial tone before dialing the number you wish to call. This will reveal your information only during that particular call. - Dial *67 before placing a call. Wait for a second dial tone, then dial the number you wish to call. Your information will not appear during that call, but it will appear during subsequent calls to that number unless *67 is dialed again beforehand.
The number to dial before placing the call will vary by country (141 in the United Kingdom, for example).
Alternately, buy a prepaid phone card and follow the information on it while placing your call to keep your private details secure. - Dial 0 for operator assistance to place the call to the number you want to block from seeing your information.
Another option is to place the call through Security Consultants, at (900) 773-8368 for calls in the United States, or (900) 786639255 for international calls. Be aware that a charge is accumulated per minute of use. - Unless placing calls through proxies, your information will still be visible to certain types of numbers. These include 800 and 900 numbers and emergency services such as police and fire departments.
