- 1). Locate on your star map the band of the Zodiac. Look along the southern edge to find Cetus. Cetus lies in the region of Pisces and is between Pisces and Orion. Along the same latitude line as Aquarius, Cetus fills in as the Zodiac band shifts to higher latitudes.
- 2). Go out at night and find a dark location for observing. Find your skymarks to aid your navigation. Locate Orion in particular and follow the stars down to the right hip and leg. Cetus lies to the right of Orion in the night sky.
- 3). Use your binoculars to view the spiral galaxy near the Whale's eye that is rare. The Spiral arms of the galaxy number three instead of the normal two.
