- 1). Connect the MP3 player to a computer via a USB cable. Open the connected drive on the computer and delete any unwanted music to instantly free up space. Delete any other unwanted files on the MP3 player, especially videos, plug-ins, and other large media files.
- 2). Insert a microSD card into the expansion slot on the MP3 player if one is available. Locate the new flash card drive on the computer and format the microSD to "Fat32" by right-clicking on the drive and choosing "Format." Transfer additional songs or albums to the new drive instead of the MP3 player drive once the format is finished.
- 3). Copy music from the MP3 player to the computer if there is no expansion slot available. Download MediaCoder Audio Edition software to the PC or Mac computer being used. Double-click on the installation icon and install via the system's installation wizard. Choose "Run as Administrator" from the right-click menu when using Vista or Windows 7.
- 4). Read the MP3 player manual that came with the device and search for compatible audio file formats. Convert the audio tracks to one of those formats with better compression, such as FLAC over WAV, via MediaCoder if possible. Navigate to "File," then "Add File." Select the song or songs to convert, then choose the "Audio" tab and select the appropriate file format. Press the "Start" button.
- 5). Compress the individual songs if file format conversion is not available. Open MediaCoder, navigate to "File," then "Add File," and choose all the songs to compress. Slide the bitrate slider bar to a lower bitrate, such as 128kbps instead of 256kbps. Press the "Start" button.
- 6). Transfer the songs back to the MP3 player when MediaCoder is finished with the compression. Right-click on the drive and and choose "Properties" to view the free space now available. Compress again if more space is desired.
- 7). Eject or properly disconnect the device from the computer by right-clicking and choosing "Safely Remove Hardware," then unplug it from the USB port. Restart the MP3 player to reload the new audio tracks.
