- 1). Slice the tip off of the tube of roofing sealant at a 45 degree angle with a utility knife.
- 2). Insert the sealant into the caulking gun. Squeeze the trigger until a small amount of sealant comes out the tip of the tube.
- 3). Lift the corner of a curled shingle with your thumb and apply a bead of caulk under the shingle with your other hand.
- 4). Firmly press down onto the shingle and wipe any excess sealant with a dry rag.
- 5). Place a red brick on top of the shingle for 24 hours to ensure a proper bond.
- 1). Lift the cracked shingle fully with the help of a putty knife.
- 2). Lay down a thick bead of sealant under the cracked portion of the shingle.
- 3). Press the shingle down onto the sealant and apply a second bead of sealant along the length of the crack on top of the shingle.
- 4). Smooth the sealant into the shingle with a putty knife, being careful to avoid spreading onto any adjacent shingles.
- 5). Collect shingle granules from the gutters of the roof to sprinkle onto the still-wet sealant and mask the repair.
