- 1). Place your extendable painter pole on a flat working surface.
- 2). Position a plastic wire brush along the pole near the tip. Rotate the brush so that the bristles face away from the pole.
- 3). Wrap the brush handle and painter pole tip in at least 10 layers of duct tape.
- 4). Extend the painter pole to its full length. Most painter poles feature one or two joints that are tightened into place with a screw ring.
- 5). Lock down each joint and wrap in at least 10 layers of duct tape. Doing so will prevent the joints from loosening while you work on your chimney.
