- 1). Measure the thickness of the lining. If the shoe lining is less then 1/16" it will be necessary to replace the brake shoes.
- 2). Check to see if the shoe is contaminated with grease or oil. Look to see if the brake shoe lining is scored, or gouged with large chunks missing. Any of these signs require the shoes being replaced. (Hairline heat cracks are normal and not cause for concern.)
- 3). It is important to replace both shoes on the brake and both brakes on an axle at the same time. If you do not do this the brakes will be unevenly balanced and cause premature brake failure.
It is imperative to the safety of you and others that all components are installed and working correctly.
