- 1). Remove the battery cable from the negative terminal by turning the terminal bolt counterclockwise with the 5/16 wrench. Locate the fuse block under the driver's side dash and remove the fuse labeled "SIR." On the bottom of the steering column, disconnect the yellow wire from the connector. Make sure the steering wheel is locked in the straight ahead position.
- 2). Wait 15 minutes for the SIR system to fully deactivate. Failure to do so could result in inadvertent airbag deployment.
- 3). Remove the four screws on the underside of the steering wheel and remove the steering wheel trim piece/airbag housing. Carefully place the housing someplace away from your work area, like on a work bench, face up.
- 4). Remove the large nut in the center of the steering wheel using the ratchet and a socket. The nut turns counterclockwise for removal.
- 5). Install the steering wheel puller, threading the puller bolts only far enough to thread through the steering wheel. Turn the center shaft on the puller clockwise using a wrench until the wheel separates from the column.
- 6). Replace the steering wheel and install the locking nut. Torque the locking nut to 30 foot-pounds. Replace the steering wheel cover and secure it with the screws removed in Step 3.
- 7). Replace the SIR fuse and reconnect the yellow wire under the steering column. Reconnect the battery.
