- 1). Turn the camera on. Press the "Menu" button on the back of the camera. Use the round directional button on the back of the camera to scroll through the menu to "Rec. Mode." Scroll down and select "File Format."
- 2). Change this setting from "JPEG" to "RAW" for shooting in RAW only. You can also select "RAW +," which records images in RAW and small JPEGS. This is useful if you want to have a set of pictures you can use as thumbnails before you process the RAW images after shooting.
- 3). Insert a large capacity memory card into the camera. RAW files are considerably larger than JPEG images as they do not receive any internal processing.
- 4). Hold the camera to your eye and compose the picture. When ready, press the shutter release button to take the picture.
