- 1). Make a list of everything you have. From laundry detergent to dishwashing liquid to bathroom cleaner, write it all down. You may find that you own many top offenders such as chlorine bleach, petroleum-based products and antibacterial soap.
- 2). Read your labels. Just because a product says it it natural doesn't mean it is. The word "natural" is unregulated and can be used by anyone.
- 3). Look up ingredients that you are not familiar with. Doing a quick, online search can pull up any hazardous materials.
- 4). Narrow down your list to include only those cleaners that need to be replaced.
- 5). Buy new, green cleaning products. Choose items that have ingredients that you can pronounce. Go frangrance and dye-free with any product that offers this alternative.
- 6). Choose concentrated products to cut down on bulky packaging. Use everyday household items like baking soda to replace over-processed products such as fabric softener.
- 7). Use essential oil to scent your home instead of synthetic air fresheners.
