- Buffalo in autumn features Gemutlichkeit, Moonlight Canoeing and Hockey.Canoe on Rydal Water image by Kevin Eaves from Fotolia.com
Buffalo lies on the banks of Lake Erie and with temperatures in the 60s during the autumn it is the perfect weather for getting outside and visiting sites such as Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin Martin house. Do some leaf peeping at area parks designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, the designer of New York City's Central Park. You can take a Buffalo walking tour and see where a young anarchist killed President McKinley or head inside to see the Buffalo Philharmonic or a play in one of Buffalo's many theaters. - The German American Heritage Festival is an unmistakeably autumn festival. Its organizing sentiment is gemutlichkeit which means something like 'chilling out with friends and having a nice cozy time of it'. In Buffalo they head to Cheektowaga Town Park in the autumn for that. They find authentic German beer and food, German bands, games and contests during weekend festival in October. Join the sauerkraut-eating or waltzing contests or dress up like an angelic child to win the Hummel figurine look-a-like contest.
