Three Rivers Arts Festival 2013



The popular Three Rivers Arts Festival celebrates 54 years of art, music, performance and community from June 7–16, 2013, at Point State Park, Gateway Center, and numerous Cultural District locations. The 10 days of the Three Rivers Arts Festival promise to be packed with a mix of free art, live music, fine food, and festival fun. The most popular parts of the Three Rivers Arts Festival are the program of free outdoor concerts and the vibrant artist market where artists from all over the country display and sell their wares.

June 7–16, 2013
Artists Market: 12 noon - 8:00 p.m. daily
Gallery Exhibitions 12:00 noon - 8:00 p.m. daily
Creativity Zone: 12 noon - 6:00 p.m. daily
Food Court: 12 noon - 9:00 p.m. (or later) daily

Where:

The downtown Pittsburgh location is very walkable, concentrated around the central hub of Point State Park and Gateway Center. Other Three Rivers Arts Festival locations can be found in plazas, galleries and theaters throughout the Cultural District.

Admission:

Admission to the festival and activities are FREE. There are a few events in the Cultural District, not directly related to the Three Rivers Arts Festival, which may require paid tickets.

Looking For Something?

  • Restrooms: Portable restrooms are located on the opposite side of the Portal Bridge in Point State Park. Most Cultural District galleries provide indoor restroom facilities.


    • A Specific Artist: Check out the Artists Market page on the Three Rivers Arts Festival website to browse artists by date and medium. You can also search for a specific artist by name in the search box in the upper right hand section of the page.
    • Lost & Found: Visit the information booth closest to where you lost your item. If you’ve already left the festival, email a description of the item you lost to operations[at]3riversartsfest[dot]org.
    • Lobster Burgers: The popular lobster burger stand is located in Hertz Gateway Center Plaza, near the Gateway Towers building.

    Artists Market:

    A popular part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, the Artists Market offers unique handmade pieces of art from over 300 artists around the country and demonstrations by local artists. Held throughout the 10 days of the Three Rivers Arts Festival. From jewelry to ceramics, fiber to sculpture, new artists arrive throughout the festival. The 2013 Market is located at booths in Point State Park and along Penn Avenue extension near Gateway Center.

    Schedule of Major Events & Concerts:

    There's always a concert or performance going on at the Three Rivers Arts Festival, showcasing new and emerging talents, as well as singer-songwriter and performance legends. "Riverlights at The Point" will kick off the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival with a dedication ceremony for the re-opening of the Point State Park fountain at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7. Pittsburgh-based indie-pop band Donora will take to the Dollar Bank Stage at 6:16 p.m. to open for headliner and indie all-stars Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes for a performance enhanced by lights and lasers. Pittsburgh JazzLive International Festival returns for 2013 with over two hundred musicians from around the world kicking off 72 hours of jazz, blues, funk, salsa, and soul on Friday, June 7. On Friday, June 14, 2013 the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust in collaboration with Global Beats will present Pittsburgh first’s "World Music Day" at the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival.

    All evening headline concerts for 2013 are presented on the Dollar Bank Main Stage at Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh:

    Creativity Zone:

    Located near the main entrance to Point State Park, just west of the Portal Bridge, the expanded Giant Eagle Creativity Zone entertains kids of all ages with activities such as craft projects and its own stage with three children-friendly performancesAll activities are free.

    Friday, June 7th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
    In 2009, this 10 member troupe released their debut album Up From Below which featured the universally appealing hit "Home" as well as fan favorite’s "40 Day Dream" and "Janglin." Their follow up album Here featuring "Man On Fire" and "That’s What’s Up" was released in May of 2012 and a third album is expected in the spring of 2013. Opening band: Donora, 6:15 - 6:55 p.m.

    Saturday, June 8th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. - Ralph Stanley
    Remote Appalachia is a huge part of Stanley’s unique style of bluegrass.
    Opening band: Great American Taxi, 6:00 - 7:15 p.m.

    Sunday, June 9th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. - Cello Fury with special guests Joy Ike and Scott Blasey
    This unique one-night-only event features the cello-rock powerhouse, Cello Fury, along with special guest collaborations from Joy Ike and Scott Blasey of The Clarks. Opening band: Grand Piano, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

    Monday, June 10th, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. - Pittsburgh Symphony with Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artists
    The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra led by Music Director Manfred Honeck presents a concert including movements from Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 as well as selections from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Aaron Copland’s Rodeo. Also, enjoy featured solo performances by PSO musicians and Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artists Jasmine Muhammed and Kyle Oliver.

    Tuesday, June 11th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. - Grupo Fantasma
    Grupo Fantasma has been praised as one of the most important independent acts in the Latin genre and has continually defied expectations to create one of the most unique musical voices to come out of the United States in the last decade.
    Opening band: Timbeleza, 6:30 - 7:10 p.m.

    Wednesday, June 12th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. – Glen Hansard
    Hansard is celebrated as the principal songwriter and vocalist/guitarist for the Irish group The Frames, one of the most influential bands in Ireland. Hansard is also one half of the acclaimed duo The Swell Season. In 2007, he and Czech songwriter Markéta Irglová took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly," from the acclaimed play Once.
    Opening band: Lisa Hannigan, 6:30 - 7:15 p.m.

    Thursday, June 13th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. – Lucius
    Lucius has been described by the New York Times as having "luscious, luminous, lilting lullabies," and their song "Don’t Just Sit There" is currently being played on NPR’s All Songs Considered. A full length album is due for release Autumn 2013.
    Opening band: Bronze Radio Return, 6:30 - 7:15 p.m.

    Friday, June 14th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. – World Baraat
    World Music Day supported by Vibrant Pittsburgh and presented in partnership with Global Beats brings Baraat to the Arts Festival Dollar Bank stage. Formed in 2008, Red Baraat is a pioneering eight-piece band from Brooklyn, New York, praised for its singular sound — a merging of hard driving North Indian bhangra rhythms with elements of jazz, go-go, brass funk, and hip-hop.
    Opening band: Jontre, 12:00 - 1:00 and 6:30 - 7:15 p.m.

    Saturday, June 15th, 8:00 – 9:30 p.m. – The Airborne Toxic Event, 8:00 - 9:30 p.m.
    This American indie rock band delivers a captivating blend of literate, visceral indie rock and propulsive, anthemic choruses.
    Opening band: Leagues, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

    Sunday, June 16th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. – The Blind Boys of Alabama
    This group, long known for their unmistakable, church-inflected harmonies, has crossed into new territory -- merging the group's gospel rooted sound with modern and traditional country for fresh and illuminating insight into what music can be.
    Opening band: Curtis Lewis and Friends Gospel Choir, 6:30 - 7:20 p.m.
