- 1). Connect a phone line into the back of the DVR box. Service requires the box to be able to connect to DirecTV periodically to download updates. The Hughes DirecTV HR10-250 HDTV comes with a 25-foot phone cord.
- 2). Use the coaxial cable that came with the DVR and connect this to the proper port on the back of the DVR. Connect the other end to the port to the back of the television. A coaxial cable is a thick cable covered in black used by most cable companies. Each end has a metal piece that threads onto the connector. The DVR comes with two coaxial cables. If the television is equipped with two ports, connect both cables. This allows recording of two programs at the same time.
- 3). Look at the back of the television to determine what type of connection it has. Your DVR comes with: HDMI cable, HDMI to DVI, RCA cables--red, white, yellow and component cables--red, blue, green as well as S-video cables. Look at the endings of the cables to see the fittings and find the matching fitting on the TV. The HDMI connections are best suited for the best picture, therefore, use these cables if your TV has this port. Connect the chosen cable to the DVR and the back of your TV.
- 4). Take the power cord included with the DVR and connect one end to the DVR and plug the other end into the power outlet. The Hughes Direct TV HR10-250 HDTV DVR does not come with a power on-off switch. The box powers up when the television is turned on and in use.
- 5). Turn on television and allow the box to boot up. Follow the prompts to continue the set up of DirecTV digital video recorder.
