- 1). Clean your counter thoroughly with a degreasing cleaner to remove grime and residue.
- 2). Roughen the surface of the tile or laminate with an electric palm sander. Bathroom counters get a lot of wear and tear. Sanding allows the primer to properly bond with the counter, creating a more durable finish. Palm sanders are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased at most home improvement stores. You could also use sandpaper the old-fashioned way, but the palm sander will make the job easier.
- 3). Remove sanding dust from the surface of the bathroom counter with damp rags. Tape off the edges of the counter where they meet the walls or cabinets with painter's tape.
- 4). Use a paintbrush to brush epoxy primer into the corners of the counter. Eliminate primer seams by rolling over them with a smooth foam roller. Apply primer to the entire surface of the counter. Use multiple thin coats for the most durable finished product.
- 5). Apply acrylic topcoat using the same technique as you applied the primer. Acrylic topcoat is extremely durable and comes in a variety of colors. Use thin, even coats to avoid visible roller and brush marks.
- 6). Allow the bathroom counter to dry for five to seven days before using. For regular cleaning, use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.
