- 1). Remove your sweaters from storage and lay them flat on a clean surface, away from sunlight. Natural fibers need air circulation. Laying your sweater flat relaxes the fabric, although it won't remove severe wrinkles.
- 2). Turn your sweater inside out and turn your iron to "low steam" setting. Gently run the iron one inch above the sweater, avoiding direct contact which can cause stretching. Only use an iron if you do not have access to a hand-held steamer.
- 3). Place your sweater on a hanger and hook it someplace where you have access to both sides of the sweater. Hold the steamer 3 inches above your sweater and slowly guide it over the fabric, patting the wrinkles smooth with your hands. Do not attempt to straighten the fabric by pulling. That can permanently stretch out the material.
- 4). Allow the steam to dry and remove the sweater from the hanger. Fold it gently with tissue paper inside the fabric and between the folds to prevent future wrinkling.
