- 1). Remove all furniture and any other items that could interfere with the painting process. Remove switch plates using a screwdriver.
- 2). Cover any items you do not want painted with painter's tape. Cover the flooring running adjacent to the wall with painter's tape.
- 3). Cover the entire floor with plastic drop cloths. Lay fabric drop cloths on top of the plastic ones.
- 4). Pour two gallons of primer into the five-gallon bucket. Apply a coat of tinted primer to the ceiling and the walls using the roller. Apply primer to any areas inaccessible to the roller using a 3-inch latex paintbrush manufactured for latex paints. Allow the primer to dry for two hours.
- 5). Wash all painting tools with water.
- 6). Pour two gallons of black paint into the cleaned 5-gallon bucket. Apply a light, thin base coat of black paint using the cleaned roller and paintbrush. Apply quickly, and do not try to make the paint cover on the first coat. Allow the paint to dry for two hours, and then apply another, thicker coat. Allow the paint to dry for two full hours. Apply an additional coat only if you can see the blue primer showing through.
