About.com Rating

We all want our pets to have safe, clean bedding and toys. Rockin Green offers a clean-rinsing laundry detergent to do just that. Doghouse Rock can be used safely for any pet's bedding, toys and apparel. Now, if we can just teach them to do their own laundry!

Rockin Green Doghouse Rock

Rockin Green Pet Bed and Toy Detergent or Doghouse Rock is formulated to safely and effectively clean all pet bedding, chew toys and apparel.

Many pets have skin issues that harsh detergents used for washing bedding can aggravate. A detergent for pet items must also be able to remove pet urine and feces stains and odor.

Rockin Green Doghouse Rock can be used in a standard washer or high-efficiency (HE) washers. It is dye-free, fragrance-free, safe for septic tanks, phosphate free, sulfate (SLS - No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Diethanolamine Lauryl Sulfate or Alpha Olefin Sulfonate) free, paraben (preservative) free and comes in a recyclable package. Listed ingredients:
  • sodium carbonate
  • sodium percarbonate
  • natural chelating agents
  • sodium sulfate
  • bio-degradable surfactants.
Rockin Green products are available online and at select retailers. The product line is not available at this time at mass merchandisers. The suggested retail price is $13.95 for 12 regular loads and 25 high-efficiency (HE) loads.

    About the Rockin Green Company

Rockin Green is a fast-growing small company that was founded by Kim Webb in 2009. Ms. Webb and her husband developed the detergent formula after searching for a way to clean diapers for their son. As they tinkered with the formula, they shared the results with friends and soon the demand for the product was established.

Based in Texas, the product is manufactured in the United States. The product contains no optical brighteners or chemicals that can coat fabrics and lessen absorbency or irritate skin. Ms. Webb, a marketing major, says the fun names comes from a collaborative effort within the office as employees share their favorite rock band groups' names.

In addition to Doghouse Rock, the company offers Funk Rock - an in-wash ammonia odor remover, Rockin Green Laundry Detergent in Lavender Mint Revival, Bare Naked Babies, Earth Wind and Orchids, Smashing Watermelons, Rage Against the Raspberries, Motley Clean and just for the holidays - Red Hot Apple Cider, Femme Rock - a cloth menstrual pad detergent, Melody Odor - a fabric odor neutralizer and fragrance spray and Shake it Up - a diaper pail freshener.

Ms. Webb and the company have won several awards including the 2011 Stevie Award for Women in Business as the fastest growing company of the year and one for best entrepreneur. The product is also endorsed by the MACT (Mother Approved and Child Tested) Awards.

    About Laundry Recommendation

I have two dogs that love their pillows. Fortunately, the pillows have removable covers that I can wash frequently. I gave Rockin Green Doghouse Rock a test following their directions to give a the covers a warm rinse first. Then I filled the washer with water and detergent and ran through a complete cycle. If the covers had been exceptionally soiled or stinky, Rockin Green recommends a hot water soak with detergent for 30 to 60 minutes and then a regular wash cycle.

The pillow covers came out clean and smelling fresh. I couldn't help but notice that the Doghouse Rock ingredients were exactly the same as the ingredients of Rockin Green Laundry Detergents. The laundry detergent is priced less expensively ($14.95 for 45 oz.). Just buy the unscented - Bare Naked Babies - formula.

While Doghouse Rock worked well in cleaning the dog pillows, I would recommend using the Rockin Green Bare Naked Babies instead to save money.

If your pets sleep in or near the laundry area in your home, be sure to keep them safely away from laundry products that can cause harm as well as the machines.
