- 1). Cut the mic cable to the needed length, using the wire cutters.
- 2). Strip 2 inches of outer insulation with the wire strippers. This exposes the four inner conductors, plus the wire shield.
- 3). Strip 1/4 inch of insulation from the tips of each conductor.
- 4). Twist the four wires to create two. Ensure the same colors are joined at the other end. Tightly twist the braided shield to create a wire-like conductor.
- 5). Unscrew the outer shells of each connector. Slide the collars down the cable.
- 6). Rest the solder and hot soldering iron against the the three individual pins on the connector. Allow a small bead of solder to flow over each pin, without a wire present. This is known as tinning.
- 7). Hold a pair of inner conductors to Pin 1. Rest the hot soldering iron to the pin, letting the solder flow over the wires. Repeat the procedure for Pin 2. Normally, Pins 1 and 2 are at the sides of Pin 3, located low-center.
- 8). Rest the twisted shield to Pin 3. Melt the solder on Pin 3 over the braid.
- 9). Slide the shells back up the wires. Screw them back onto the connectors.
