- 1). Unplug all of the cables connected to the Mac G3. Place a bath towel on the floor. Rotate the G3 so that the side panel is facing you.
- 2). Lift up on the locking latch above the Apple logo to release the side panel. Lower the side panel onto the towel.
- 3). Insert the tip of a flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver into the spring that is barely visible in the extreme right corner inside the top edge of the G3. Pull the tip toward the left to compress the spring. Hold the compressed spring in position for 30 seconds before removing the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver.
- 4). Raise the side panel back onto the G3. Pull down on the locking latch to secure the side panel to the G3. Rotate the G3 back to its original position and reattach the cables.
