How to Program Your Satellite Receiver for Free

    • 1). Place the FTA satellite receiver next to the TV. Plug the receiver's power cord into a wall socket for power. Insert one end of an HDMI cable into the HDMI output on the back of the receiver. Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into an HDMI input on the back or side of the TV.

    • 2). Screw the coax connector on the end of the coaxial cable coming from the satellite dish into the coax input on the back of the FTA satellite receiver.

    • 3). Turn the TV on with its remote. Press the "Menu" button. Select "System Setup," "Video," Video input." Choose the HDMI input that the HDMI cable is plugged into. Press the "Menu" button.

    • 4). Take the FTA satellite receiver out of standby by pressing its remote "On" button. Press "Menu." Select "Installation" from the menu selection and then "Point Dish."

    • 5). Scroll through a list of available satellites that can be accessed--the list will appear in the center column of the new screen that appears. Check the checkbox next to each of the satellites in the list that you would like to be able to access.

    • 6). Press the "Exit" button to back up one screen. Select "Satellite Scan" from the options on the screen. Press "OK." Wait as the FTA satellite receiver connects to the chosen satellites. Press "OK" when a confirmation window appears to state that the scanning is completed. Press "Menu."

    • 7). Press the "Guide" button to view a list of available programming that can be accessed from the satellites. Select one of the choices listed, press the center button on the remote and watch the programming on the screen.
