- 1). Remove all items on the concrete. Use a broom to sweep the concrete free of dust and debris. Wash the surface of the concrete with a scrub brush and concrete cleaner designed to remove oil, grease and other stains. Allow the concrete 24 hours to dry.
- 2). Brush small cracks in the concrete with a stiff brush. Vacuum the loose debris brushed from the crack with a shop vacuum. Insert a tube of concrete patching compound into a caulking gun. Squeeze the patching compound into the crack until full. Dampen a cloth and wipe the excess compound away.
- 3). Protect baseboards or wall edges by covering them with painter's tape.
- 4). Mix concrete overlay mix and water in a large 5-gallon bucket following the instructions given by the manufacturer. Use a power drill and paddle mixer to combine the overlay mix to the correct, recommended consistency.
- 5). Dampen the concrete with water. Be careful not to oversaturate the concrete; otherwise, puddles of water will form on the surface.
- 6). Pour the mixed overlay onto the concrete, working in smaller 10-foot sections at a time. Spread the overlay over the concrete with a long-handled squeegee. Continue to dampen the concrete if necessary and spread the remaining overlay mix onto the concrete with the squeegee until the entire surface is finished.
- 7). Drag a concrete form board over the overlay to level the surface. Spray a concrete curing compound over the concrete overlay, and allow it to cure for the stated amount of time.
