- Always turn off and unplug the Shark floor steamer after use and before performing any maintenance tasks. Once it is cool, remove the cap on the water tank and empty any remaining water out of the tank. This will help reduce and prevent mineral and bacterial buildup in the water. When refilling the tank, use clean, cool tap water.
- The included microfiber cleaning pad should be washed after every use. Wait for the unit to cool properly before removing the pad, as it will be hot from the steam. Wash the pad separately or in a garment bag, and use the warm water setting and liquid detergent in the washing machine. Do not use bleach or fabric softener, as this can damage the pad. Air-dry the pad or set the pad in the dryer on "Air" settings only.
- Note that using distilled water will help keep the cleaning tank clean. However, if mineral scale does build up, the tank should be cleaned. Pour clean water into the cleaning tank if mineral scale builds up inside the tank. Close the lid and shake the tank vigorously to agitate the water inside the tank. Open the cap and empty out the water.
- It is best to avoid using cleaning products or household substances, such as vinegar, with the steam cleaner. The use of chemicals inside the water tank can damage the unit or invalidate the warranty. Cleaning the water tank with vinegar may also damage the unit, and is not necessary if the tank is cleaned regularly with water. The only cleaning substance necessary for maintaining the steam cleaner is liquid laundry detergent for cleaning the floor pad.
