- 1). Compare the memory size, or capacity of the two cards. This is the surest way to distinguish between the two. SD cards hold up to 4 GB of information. SDHC can go as high as 32 GB.
- 2). Compare the speed of the cards. An SD card is capable of writing less than 1 megabyte per second. The SDHC writes as high as 6 megs per second. This determines how quickly you can shoot pictures. Applications such as camcorders, or those used as system drives require this higher speed in order to keep up.
- 3). Evaluate the price of the two cards. SDHC cards start at around $12 and SD begin far less than that. Price varies with the capacity of the card, getting more expensive as storage capacity rises.
