- 1). Fill a sink, bathtub or washing tub with enough cold water to fully submerge the tablecloth. Do not use hot or warm water, as this could shrink the tablecloth.
- 2). Add a capful of a mild liquid laundry detergent.
- 3). Submerge the silk damask tablecloth in the water. Allow it to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
- 4). Use a sponge or cloth to gently rub any spots or stains from the fabric. Gently massage the fabric to ensure the soap is working into the fabric.
- 5). Remove the tablecloth from the soapy water when it's clean. Rinse under cool water until the water runs clear, indicating that all soap residue is removed.
- 6). Press a towel against the fabric to absorb moisture. Use only similar color towels on light-colored tablecloths. For example, do not press a red towel against a white tablecloth. The dye could run into the silk fabric. Do not twist or wring the wet silk or you could stretch and damage the fibers.
- 7). Hang the tablecloth to air dry. Do not dry it directly in the sun. This can damage the fibers.
