- 1). Purchase an algaecide product that fits your needs. Algaecides can be found online, at hardware stores, and at pool and pond shops. Copper sulfate algaecides have been used for decades, but newer environmentally friendly types are also available.
- 2). Mix the algaecide in a bucket of clean water. Since every algaecide is different, mixing rates will also be different for the amount of pond water you need to clean. Carefully follow the instructions on the algaecide you purchase.
- 3). Pour the bucket mixture into the patio pond, preferably at a waterfall, a pump outflow, or at an aeration device. This will help mix the algaecide with the pond water. Repeat theses steps if green water remains a problem.
