- 1). Measure the length of the fish from the tip of its nose to the end of one of its tail fins. Record the length using a writing utensil and notepad.
- 2). Measure the girth of the fish by wrapping your tape measure completely around the fish from the front of one pectoral fin to the other (the fins on the each side of the fish's body). Record the girth on your notepad.
- 3). Enter the girth of the fish into your calculator and square that number. Multiply your answer by the length of the fish and then divide that answer by 800. For example, if your fish is 21 inches long and has a girth of 10 inches, you would square the number 10, which gives you 100. Multiply 100 by 21 and you will get 2100. Divide that number by 800 and you get the weight of your fish, which is 2.6 pounds. This method works to determine the weight of both fresh and frozen fish.
