- 1). Soak the fabric in one part lemon juice to one part water for 30 minutes or more. Launder as usual.
- 2). Sprinkle an even layer of salt on the rust stain and squeeze lemon juice over it. Lay the fabric in the sun to dry. Launder as usual.
- 3). Launder the clothing with a commercial rust remover, available at most home stores. Follow the specific instructions provided with the product. Rinse the fabric thoroughly; any remaining acid can deteriorate fabric.
- 4). Wash rust-stained clothing separate from other clothing to prevent spreading the rust to clean clothes.
- 5). Inspect the fabric before drying. Do not dry if the stain is still visible. Repeat washing with the methods mentioned until the stain is gone.
