Blu-ray Disc players are going through a transformation and the best example shown at CES 2010 was the LG BD590. This player has just about everything: Blu-ray, DVD, CD playback, Wireless Network Connectivity with audio/video streaming from content providers such as Netflix, Vudu, CinemaNow, YouTube, and Pandora, and in a new twist, the LG B590 also includes a 250 GB hard drive that allows consumers to store selected downloaded movies, music ripped from CDs, and photos/audio/video content from USB flash drives.
However, it must be noted that this unit is not a Blu-ray Disc or DVD recorder and does not allow recording of copy-protected DVDs or Blu-ray discs on its hard drive. Price and availability forthcoming soon.
In addition to the feature-packed LG BD590, there were many other new Blu-ray Disc players shown at CES 2010. One that had a distinctive design was Samsung's new flagship Blu-ray Disc player, the BD-C6900 (see additional photo). This player is very slim and stylish and can even be wall mounted. Also, below the surface, the BD-C6900 has on-board WiFi, audio/video streaming of online source content (Blockbuster, Netflix, Pandora, Vudu), and is also 3D-enabled.
