- 1). Raise the hood on the 1999 Ford Taurus and locate the belt routing diagram. The diagram is located on the underside of the hood. With the hood raised, look up under the hood and you will see the diagram. Follow the instructions on this diagram when routing the new belt.
- 2). Locate the serpentine belt tensioner on the left-hand side of the engine. There is a small 3/8-inch square hole on the left-hand side of the tensioner.
- 3). Insert the square end of the 3/8-inch drive serpentine belt tensioner tool into the square hole of the tensioner. Turn the tensioner toward the right-hand side of the engine and pull the belt off of the tensioner pulley with your free hand. Release the tensioner tool.
- 4). Route the old serpentine belt off of all of the accessory pulleys. Pull the belt out from the engine compartment.
- 5). Route the new serpentine belt around each of the accessory pulleys by following the routing directions on the serpentine belt routing diagram.
- 6). Turn the tensioner toward the right-hand side of the engine again with the tensioner tool and slide the belt around the tensioner pulley with your free hand. Release the tensioner.
- 7). Crank the 1999 Ford Taurus and allow the motor to run for at least one minute. Inspect the new belt to see if it is going to stay inside of each pulley. Then, turn the engine off and close the hood.
