iTunes Won't See My iPod

    • 1). Check your computer specifications to ensure that it meets the minimum requirements for running iTunes. You can find the specifications on the Apple website under support. If it does not meet the requirements, iTunes may not function correctly.

    • 2). Check the connections to ensure that the cord is properly plugged into both the iPod and the computer. Plug your iPod into only a high-powered 2.0 USB port. If you are using a laptop, plug the laptop into an electrical socket rather than drawing on battery power. Only use the USB cord that came with your iPod because other cords may not work correctly.

    • 3). Check your iPod's charge. There is a battery icon located in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Green means it has enough charge, but red means the battery is low on power. It must have enough charge for the computer to recognize it. If the battery is drained, neither your computer or iTunes will be able to see the iPod.

    • 4). Reboot your iPod and computer. Reset your iPod by sliding the hold button on and off. Then press and hold the "Menu" and "Select" buttons until the Apple logo reappears. Restart your computer. Sometimes when the computer or the iPod has been rebooted, the problem will be resolved.

    • 5). Uninstall and then reinstall iTunes. Ensure that you are downloading the latest version. Your songs should be stored on your computer when you uninstall iTunes and most often are not affected at all.

    • 6). Plug your iPod into another computer and see if the same problem exists. If that computer recognizes your iPod, then you will need to troubleshoot with the other computer. If the second computer does not recognize the iPod, contact Apple for possible repairs by going to the website and selecting the "Support" tab.
