- 1). In a bucket, add around 1 gallon of warm water.
- 2). Add 1/4 cup of liquid dish detergent (about four large squirts). This is a mild cleaning agent that leaves behind a remarkable streak-free, spot-free shine.
- 3). Add 1 cup of white vinegar (optional), which disinfects the hardwood floors without damaging the hardwood or the gloss finish. This is recommended for areas that commonly come into contact with bacteria that can be harmful to the family, such as the bathroom and kitchen.
- 4). Dip the mop in this solution, agitating the water until all ingredients are combined. Then, pull the mop out of the bucket, and twist out as much water as possible. The key to cleaning hardwood floors is to use little water, thereby preventing water absorbtion that can lead to water stains and buckling of the wood.
- 5). Mop over the floors, and repeat, as needed, until you're satisified with the cleaning job.
- 6). Let floors dry on their own, or run over the floors again with a dry mop. Using a dry mop isn't required, because the dish detergent is designed to leave a streak-free and residue-free shine that keeps the glossy finish looking its best.
