White Bass Ice Fishing With Power Bait Spikes

    • 1). Drill a hole in the ice using your ice auger. Ideally, your hole will be positioned over or near some underwater structure such as a rock pile or a steep drop off. Make sure the blades of the auger are sharp or you will spend more time drilling holes than fishing.

    • 2). Assemble your rod, reel and line. Tie a jig or micro-jig to the line and thread one to three Berkley Power Bait Spikes onto the hook portion of the jig.

    • 3). Lower your spike-tipped jig through your hole in the ice and down the depth you desire to fish. The fish-attracting scent that permeates the spikes will help attract fish to your jig.

    • 4). Periodically raise the tip of your rod upward a short distance and quickly return the rod tip to its original position. This "jigging" action will impart a lifelike motion to your spike-tipped jig and induce fish to strike.

    • 5). Set the hook with a quick upward jerk of the rod tip when a fish strikes. White bass typically strike a spike-tipped jig quite hard, so you need to be ready. After the fish is securely hooked you can concentrate on bringing to the surface and landing it through your hole in the ice.
