- 1). Determine the appropriate location for the lights. You must avoid placing the lights near any moving parts, heat from the engine, the fuel line and the exhaust system. Consult the instructions manual of the light kit for advice on hanging your specific neon light kit.
- 2). Disconnect your car's battery to halt any electricity flow within your vehicle. Your car should be off, with no electronics, including cell phones, turned on inside the car.
- 3). Place the light kit in your desired location. Mark the location of the mounting brackets with a market. Drill holes for the brackets using the drill. Use a screwdriver to mount the brackets.
- 4). Connect your car's transformer to the circuit of the neon light kit. A car's transformer is typically located near the battery.
- 5). Attach the transformer's power wire to the positive battery terminal using an in-line fuse. Attach the transformer's ground wire to the car's metal frame.
- 6). Attach the on/off switch of the light kit. Run the wiring for this switch through the firewall's grommet, into the car's dashboard. Mount this switch to the dashboard using the mounting kit included in your lighting kit.
- 7). Reconnect your car's battery.
