Jerez de la Frontera, or Jerez as it is commonly known, is a small town in the extreme southwest corner of Spain about 12 miles from the port of Cadiz. The town gives its name to the famous fortified wine of the region that is known in English as sherry. As a center for wine making, flamenco music and dance, Andalusian horses and colorful festivals, Jerez is an important tourist destination. Hotels in the area can be pricey, but budget options do exist.

    The Hotel Loreto

    • The Hotel Loreto is a three-story building at the junction of Ricardo Alcón and Ganado Streets that dates back to the 16th century. In the past, it was the private dwelling place of a Spanish nobleman as well as a nunnery. The centerpiece of the hotel is a beautiful interior open-air Andalusian courtyard, full of colorful plants and surrounded by balconies. The hotel is close to the city's bullring and in the past has been a favorite venue of bullfighters. The same family has managed the hotel for nearly 100 years. Rooms are air-conditioned and fairly basic; all do not have private bathrooms, so expect to pay a little extra for a room with a bath.

    The Hotel Tierras de Jerez

    • The Hotel Tierras de Jerez is located in the Plaza de las Angustias, an important square in the heart of Jerez. It is an excellent base from which to explore Jerez' historic monuments such as the Alcazar, a Spanish castle, and the Cathedral. The area is well known for having some of the city's best restaurants, museums and wine cellars. All of the rooms in this budget hotel have private bathrooms, air conditioning, and a safe deposit box. A continental buffet breakfast is included in the room rate, and a bar-cafeteria is near the lobby.

    Hotel Guadalete

    • The inexpensive Hotel Guadalete near the city center has a pool and a convention center, but is still affordable. This hotel was totally renovated in 2009 and now serves as a business centre and events venue in Jerez hosting international discussion groups, fashion shows, gala dinners and cocktail parties. All rooms have a full bathroom, and each is equipped satellite television, a radio, and telephone.
