- 1). Cut a 21-inch long piece of 1 1/2-inch wide grosgrain ribbon. Cut a 3/4-inch wide piece of ribbon to the same length.
- 2). Cut an inverted V-shape into each end of the ribbons by trimming it with scissors.
- 3). Dab no-fray sealant along the trimmed ends to keep the ribbon from fraying. Allow the sealant to dry for 10 minutes.
- 4). Lay both ribbons flat on your work surface.
- 5). Draw the team logo or imagery onto the wide ribbon with a fabric paint marker. For example, for a Bulldogs-themed accessory, draw dog footprints across the ribbon. For a University of Alabama-themed ribbon, write the fancy script A that is central in the school's iconography.
- 6). Write a team-specific cheer on the narrow ribbon with a fabric paint marker. For example, write "Go Bulldogs!" or "Roll Tide!" Write the phrase four to six times across the ribbon. Follow the paint manufacturer's instructions to allow proper drying time for the illustrations.
- 7). Center the narrow ribbon on top of the wide ribbon. Flip the stack over so that the wide ribbon faces you.
- 8). Feed the hair elastic onto the ribbons until it is the center of material.
- 9). Tie the ribbon into a basic knot. Turn the ribbon and elastic to position the top of the knot pointing away from the elastic.

Tie the ribbon into a bow as you would tie shoelaces. Pull the bow tight to secure it to the ribbon and make both loops and tails proportionate relative to one another.
