How to Draw a Boom Box

    • 1). Draw the basic rectangle shape using a ruler. Draw a horizontal line slightly below the top line. This will serve to divide the button area from the rest of the box. Draw two vertical lines down to divide the bottom section into three parts. These will become the two speakers separated by the cassette and equalizer section. You should now have a total of seven lines. You may also draw the handle on top, continuing to use the ruler to make sure it is straight and aligned.

    • 2). Draw the speakers. Most boom boxes have circular speakers, so draw two circles if you want it to look realistic. You can also stylize them by drawing them slightly oval-shaped, which can add some punch and character. Draw two smaller circles above them to show the treble speakers. These also can be stylized. Make sure the speakers on both sides are symmetrical.

    • 3). Draw small circles and squares along the top section to indicate buttons and knobs. If you draw them straight and precisely, they will look more realistic. If you draw them more randomly with a sketchy hand, they will look more organic and have a different flavor.

    • 4). Draw the cassette rectangle in the middle and small equalizer rectangles above it. Some boom boxes have two cassette docks, so you may choose to draw two. Now you should have all of the essential shapes in place.

    • 5). Draw details. Add markings around the knobs to indicate volume, track number and other displays. Draw shadows underneath the knobs and bottom of the boom box. These will add three-dimensionality to its shape.

    • 6). Draw the music. Using different kinds of lines, draw rhythms emanating from the speakers. The simplest form would be to simply draw consecutive circles like rippling water around the speakers. Add variation and color to express the feel of the music you want to convey. Rhythmic lines can be drawn around the entire boom box to add more character and energy.
