- 1). Open the Web browser on your computer and type the URL address, “https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/” in the search field. Click the “Search” button. Click the “Download” button and install Apple iTunes on your computer. Follow the Setup Wizard's instructions for installing the application. Use iTunes help you edit an audio file and create a 40-second sound clip file.
- 2). Type the URL address, “http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/” in the search field on your Web browser and click the “Search” button. Click on the “Download” button for the PC version of iPhone Explorer and install the application on your computer. Follow the Setup Wizard's instructions for installing the application.
- 3). Plug the USB data cable to your Apple iPhone to an open USB port on your computer. Double-click on the “iPhone Explorer” icon on your desktop to open the application. Click on “File” from the menu bar and select “Open,” and locate the file path for your iPhone's directory.
- 4). Click on the “UISounds” folder from the directory. Inside the folder, you will see six iPhone SMS/Text message default ringtones. Click on the file name “sms-received6.ccaf” and rename it “sms-received6.ccaf.bak.” Locate the sound clip file that you want to use, and rename it “sms-received6.caf.” Use your mouse to drag and drop the file into the “UISounds” folder that contains all of your iPhone SMS/Text message default ringtones. Close the iPhone Explorer browser when you're done.
- 5). Go to your Apple iPhone and power it off. Hold down the “Power/Sleep” button to turn it the device off. Then turn your iPhone back on again.
- 6). Tap on the “Settings” icon and then tap the “Sounds” button. Tap on the “New Text Message” option and then tap “Electronics,” which is the sixth default SMS tone that you replaced with your custom SMS sound clip file. You can also replace the remaining five SMS/Text message default ringtones with your own custom sound clip files.
