- 1). Ensure you have the very latest version of Internet Explorer for your computer. Click "Tools" then select "Windows Update" from the list of options. Click "Check for Updates" to install any new software.
- 2). Delete any temporary files being stored in the browser cache. Although such files can help make browsing faster, the system will become clogged over time and benefit from a spring cleaning. Click "Tools" and then "Delete Browsing History." Select the option to delete your temporary Internet files.
- 3). Reduce the amount of time that Internet Explorer stores Web pages you have visited. Click "Tools" and then select "Internet Options." Depending on which version of the program you have, there will either be a box stating how many days' pages are stored or you will need to click "Settings" in the "Browsing History" section to access it. Reduce the number of days. One day is usually more than adequate and will help your browser run faster.
- 4). Remove any unnecessary add-ons as these may be slowing your browser down. Click "Tools" followed by "Manage Add-Ons." Look through the list of add-ons and disable anything you no longer need. In particular look out for third-party toolbars which can have a significant effect on a browser's performance.
- 5). Block unwanted pop-ups by selecting "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu. Click on the "Privacy" tab and ensure the "Pop-Up Blocker" is switched on.
