- 1). Log in to Windows Vista as an administrator. Click "Start." Click "Control Panel." Select "Choose Keyboards or Other Input Methods" from "Clock, Language, and Region."
- 2). Click "Change Keyboards" on the "Keyboards and Languages" tab. Click the "Add" button on the "Text Services and Input Languages" window.
- 3). Scroll to "Japanese (Japan)" on the "Add Input Language" window. Click the "+" icon to expand the category.
- 4). Expand "Keyboard." Check "Japanese" and "Microsoft IME." Click "OK" to close "Add Input Language."
- 5). Click "OK" to close "Text Services and Input Languages." Restart the computer, if prompted, to install Japanese language support on Windows Vista.
- 6). Select the IME icon, found on the far right of the taskbar, to open the language bar. The icon will show the initials for the default language. For example, if the default language is English, the letters "EN" will be shown.
- 7). Select "JP" or "Japanese (Japan)" from the language bar. Click "Input Mode" and choose "Hiragana" from the options.
- 8). Open a text editor and begin typing. Windows Vista will automatically convert the hiragana to Japanese kanji as you type. You can also press spacebar after typing a word and choose the proper kanji from the list.
