Low Carb Diets - Can This Type of Diet Kill You Or Cure You?

Low carb diets are based primarily on reducing the amount of carbohydrates you eat and increasing the amount of fats and proteins.
This diet type helps your body to consume the fat reserves that are already in your body and they are based on the belief that carbohydrates raise your blood insulin.
This triggers weight gain instead of weight loss.
The reality is that it's not carbs, but the extra weight from excess calories that boosts insulin levels.
Some low carb diets are not as restrictive as they might sound.
In addition to limited amounts of carbs you can still eat fruit, dairy products, vegetables and lots of meat, basically anything that is not a carb.
Low carb diets also tend to be lacking in fiber.
Animal products have very little or no fiber and are also known as ketogenic diets.
These diets cause the glycogen levels in the body to deplete.
Glycogen is nothing but glucose stored within the body.
Low carb diets are high protein diets.
Protein powders provide the necessary amino acids without the excess calorie intake.
Low carbohydrate diets are very popular today and do help some people lose weight initially, but the long-term health effects are largely unknown.
They are generally considered "fad diets," because they promise people will lose weight simply by changing the food they eat, but without exercising.
This is a not a formula for long-term and prolonged health.
As the name indicates, this type of diet limits the intake of specific carbohydrates.
Researchers believe that carbohydrate intake increases the insulin level, which leads to weight gain.
Low carbohydrate diets restrict carbohydrate consumption usually for weight control or for the treatment of obesity.
Other than obesity, low-carb diets are often used as a treatment for other conditions such as diabetes.
Also note that low carb diets do not enable the consumption of more calories than other kinds of diets.
A calorie is a calorie and it doesn't matter whether it comes in the form of carbohydrate or fat.
Low carb diets work on the underlying assumption that too many carbohydrates will cause the body to accumulate fat.
The reason these diets work initially is because when you consume low levels of carbohydrate, your body has to burn stored carbohydrates (glycogen).
Then your body starts to burn stored fat.
But after the initial weight loss, insulin levels increase because of the glycogens that are released.
The end result is weight gain.
