- 1). Select a site for the wood boiler, well away from the house and any flammable material.
- 2). Lay a level 4-foot square or larger, concrete foundation and set two 6-inch I beams, 1-foot apart.
- 3). Weld together a firebox from 3/16-inch mild steel, 35-inches tall, 17-inches wide and 40-inches deep. Weld them to the I beams.
- 4). Weld together the water jacket over the firebox. A tank 54-inches tall, 24-inches wide, and 43-inches front to back, will hold 150 gallons. This is sufficient for a typical house.
- 5). Drill holes in bottom of the jacket for water inlets and outlets. Drill more on top, for the steam vent and chimney.
- 6). Consult an expert for information regarding the proper safety controls and regulatory devices; in addition to information about piping connections, and insulating the unit.
- 7). Run copper piping 6-inches underground to the water source, and into house.
- 8). Fashion a sheet metal structure to house the unit, or purchase a metal shed of a suitable size.
