- 1). Fit the bottom end of the dryer duct adapter over the dryer's vent pipe, which extends from the back of the dryer. Push the dryer in place and tape the adapter in an upright position, using painter's tape or masking tape.
- 2). Loosen a duct clamp by turning the screw counterclockwise with a screwdriver until the clamp is loose enough to easily fit over the end of the dryer duct adapter. Place the clamp on the adapter end, but do not tighten it.
- 3). Fit the end of the flexible duct over the end of the dryer duct adapter. Lift the clamp up and over the flexible duct to allow the flexible duct to fully seat on the dryer duct adapter end. Position the clamp on the flexible duct 1 inch from the end of the flexible duct. Turn the clamp screw clockwise until the clamp firmly holds the flexible duct in place on the dryer vent adapter.
- 4). Route the flexible duct to the dryer vent pipe that leads outside. Make as few turns as possible, and keep the dryer duct as straight as possible. Expand or contract the duct as necessary by stretching it out or pushing it together. The corrugated duct expands and contracts the way an accordion does.
- 5). Screw a piece of duct strap to a ceiling joist by placing a screw through a hole in one end and screwing it to the joist. Wrap the strap around the duct to hold it against the ceiling, and screw the other end of the strap to the joist with a screw. Install duct straps every 16 to 24 inches to support the flexible duct. Keep the duct straight, and don't allow it to sag.
- 6). Place a duct clamp over the end of the dryer vent pipe that leads outside. Fit the end of the flexible duct over the end of the vent pipe so that at least 3 inches of flexible duct are over the vent pipe. Slide the clamp over the flexible duct and tighten it in place 1 inch from the end of the flexible duct.
