- 1). Keep the area around your home's foundation free of leaves, twigs and dead or decaying vegetation. These items are an excellent food source for mold and mildew.
- 2). Fill a 5-gallon bucket with 1 gallon water, 1 cup of chlorine bleach and 1/4 cup liquid dish soap. For a safer alternative, replace the chlorine bleach with oxygen bleach.
- 3). Dip a scrub brush into the mixture and scrub the siding, decks, painted surfaces, concrete and wood. Continue scrubbing until you have removed the mold. Let the mixture sit on the surface for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the surface clean with a water hose.
- 4). Gain access to your roof and scrub the roof clean with a brush broom saturated in the mixture. Continue scrubbing until you have removed all mold, mildew and moss from the roof. Let the mixture sit on the roof for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the roof clean with a water hose.
- 1). Cover wood patios, decks and railings with a wood sealer and apply a layer of mildew-resistant paint over painted surfaces.
- 2). Remove leaves, sticks and other vegetation from the foundation of your home on a regular basis. Furthermore, regularly clean roofs and gutters of leaves, twigs and other debris.
- 3). Keep tree branches hanging over your roof cut back. This will allow sunlight to hit your roof and reduce the chance of future fungus growth.
