- iTunes software is the only software Apple licenses as compatible with iPods. iTunes is a way to organize music libraries; use this program to edit and maintain your iPod's contents. iTunes is not compatible with Windows ME.
- Windows released its Millennium Edition operating system (also referred to as Windows ME) in 2000, but it was quickly phased out due to its many glitches and security risks. Apple never released a version of iTunes that was compatible with Windows Millennium Edition, which is why it is not possible to use an iPod with this operating system.
- iPods cannot be used with Windows ME. This is not a Shuffle-specific situation--it is the case for all iPods. In order to use your iPod, you must either upgrade to a newer version of Windows, or set the iPod up on a different computer.
