- 1). Ensure your email account is configured for remote access. You may need to talk with the IT staff or whoever is responsible for managing email accounts at your company. They will also be able to provide you with detailed instructions on how to work with the correct remote email access solution.
- 2). Establish an Internet connection at your offsite location. This may entail logging in to a public access point (wireless hot spot) or otherwise acquiring temporary access to the Internet.
- 3). Launch your VPN software to connect with your corporate network if a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is part of your company's remote email solution. Log in to access your email.
- 4). Launch your email program once you connect via your company's VPN.
- 5). If your company uses a browser-based solution such as Outlook Web Access, navigate to the appropriate website and log in.
- 6). When finished, log out of the email system completely to minimize the risk of someone hacking into the corporate network. If using your regular email program via VPN, exit the program, then log out of the VPN. If using a web-based solution, log out of the email system, then close the browser window.
