- 1). Clean the bare metal with a water-based degreasing cleanser, using a coarse sponge or plastic brush. Rinse exterior metal, using a water hose. Use wet rags to rinse interior metal.
- 2). Coat the clean bare metal with water-based metal self-etching primer, using a polyester paintbrush. Apply a thin coat and brush vertically, being careful to smooth runs as they become apparent. Wait four hours for the etching primer to dry.
- 3). Wash the brush with water.
- 4). Coat the primed metal with latex paint, using the clean paintbrush. Apply a thin coat and brush vertically. Wait two hours for the paint to dry.
- 5). Add a second coat of paint if the primer shows through.
