- 1). Mount the sink with the rim or surface no higher than 34 inches above the floor surface. Provide a clearance of at least 29 inches above the floor surface to the bottom of the sink apron. Provide 19 inches of clear space under the sink to allow for knee space. Use the fasteners or lag screws that came with the sink.
- 2). Install a lever-operated, push-type, or electronically controlled faucet. If self-closing valves are used the faucet must remain open for at least 10 seconds. Connect faucets to the corresponding hot and cold water shutoff valves with flexible hoses.
- 3). Put insulation on hot water and drain pipes under the sink to protect against contact. Remove any sharp or abrasive surfaces under lavatories.
- 4). Connect the P-trap and drain arm to the drain stub-out, then apply plumber's caulk around the base of the sink between the sink and the wall.
- 5). Provide a clear floor space 30 inches by 48 inches in front of a lavatory to allow forward approach. The space should adjoin or overlap an accessible route.
